Video: Solving common problems using troubleshooters

Troubleshooting in Control Panel contains several troubleshooting programs that can automatically fix some common problems with your computer, such as problems with networking, hardware and devices, using the web, and program compatibility.

Although troubleshooters aren't designed to fix every problem, they are a useful thing to try first, as they can often save you time and effort.

Open Troubleshooting by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Find and fix problems.

Troubleshooters can find and fix a variety of common problems

When you run a troubleshooter, it might ask you some questions or reset common settings as it works to fix the problem. If the troubleshooter fixed the problem, you can close the troubleshooter. If it couldn't fix the problem, you can view several options that will take you online to try and find an answer. In either case, you can always view a complete list of changes made.

• If you click the Advanced link on a troubleshooter and then clear theApply repairs automatically check box, the troubleshooter displays a list of fixes to choose from, if any problems are found.

• Windows includes several troubleshooters, and more are available online when you select the Get the most up-to-date troubleshooters from the Windows Online Troubleshooting service check box at the bottom of Troubleshooting. (Depending on your system settings, this might be replaced by the Do you want the most up to date content available for troubleshooting? box. If so, click Yes for access to the online troubleshooters.)
