BT Openzone – Connection Manager is trying to connect me to a BT Openzone hotspot and it keeps failing. Why is this happening?
-
BT Openzone have 2 Wi-Fi networks, their public network and their FON network. The public network includes sites such as hotels, coffee shops and motorway services and O2 Mobile Broadband customers can use these hotspots when they are out and about. The FON network consists of BT Broadband customers who allow other BT Broadband customers to share some of their Wi-Fi. O2 Mobile Broadband does not cover the use of these hotspots.
BT use the same name for both of their networks and Connection Manager will attempt to connect you to a FON hotspot if it finds one available. We’re working with BT to find a solution to this problem but in the mean time we recommend that you only try to connect to BT Openzone hotspots that are in the Connection Manager Wi-Fi Hotspot Directory. - View More: O2 BT Openzone – Connection Manager is trying to connect me to a BT Openzone hotspot and it keeps failing. I've been using Wi-Fi, but have just been asked to register my mobile number, why?
- If you previously had an original iPhone and upgraded to the new iPhone 3G, you may need to reset the MAC address associated with your new iPhone.
This simply means that you need to register your mobile number with the Cloud and BT Openzone as a one-off activity. You should only need to do this once. - View More: O2 I've been using Wi-Fi, but have just been asked to register my mobile number, why?

Is the Wi-Fi connection automatic?
- Yes, as long as you are within range of the Wi-Fi network and have access to it (a password may be needed), then iPhone will automatically join the network. If Wi-Fi is switched off or a Wi-Fi network is not within range, the iPhone will automatically switch to a 3G, HSDPA, EDGE or GPRS connection.

All my settings are correct but my iPhone still won't work with my home Wi-Fi connection.
- For some home Wi-Fi connections it may be necessary to add the DNS addresses of your Internet Service Provider to the iPhone.
Firstly you need to find out what the DNS addresses of your ISP/broadband provider are. You may need to access the settings in your Wi-Fi router or contact your ISP to find these.
Once you have the DNS settings of your ISP, on the iPhone go to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi.
Select the blue arrow next to the network you are connected to. Select DNS. Change the IP Address to the DNS addresses of your Internet Service Provider.Check out our O2 Guru TV video below:
