      NOTE

This section explains the procedures using the EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D. Depending on the model you are using, the content displayed on the LCD monitor might be slightly different from what is shown on your camera, but the procedure is almost the same.

      1. Set the power switch to .

      2. Press the

button to bring up the menu display.

      3. Under the [Set-up] tab, select [Sensor cleaning], then press the button.

      5. Select [OK], then press the button.
The screen will indicate that the sensor is being cleaned. Although there will be a shutter sound, a picture is not taken.
For EOS DIGITAL REBEL XTi/EOS 400D DIGITAL, select [Clean now] then press the button.

      NOTE

      • For best results, do the sensor cleaning while the camera bottom is placed on a table or other flat surface.
      • Even if you repeat the sensor cleaning, the result will not improve that much. Right after the sensor cleaning is finished, the [Clean now] option will remain disabled temporarily.

If there is dirt or dust that cannot be removed by following the procedure above, please see Manual Sensor Cleaning.

      REFERENCE

      • Normally, the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit will eliminate most of the dust that might be visible on captured images. However, in case visible dust still remains, you can append the Dust Delete Data to the image for erasing the dust spots later. The Dust Delete Data is used by Digital Photo Professional (provided software) to erase the dust spots automatically.
      • For details about dust delete data, refer to the instruction manuals that came with your camera. For Automatic Dust Erasure Processing using Dust Delete Data, please see How to erase dust spots in an image with Digital Photo Professional Ver.3.10 (Copy Stamp Tool).

  • Manual Sensor Cleaning

    • If you cannot remove dirt or dust on the image sensor (CMOS) even by using the sensor cleaning function on your camera, or if your camera does not have a function for sensor cleaning, you can clean the sensor on your own by using a commercially available blower.

      IMPORTANT

The surface of the image sensor is extremely delicate. If the sensor needs to be cleaned directly, it is advisable to contact a Canon Service Center.

      ATTENTION

      • For the power source, using an AC Adapter Kit is recommended. The AC Adapter Kit that can be used differs depending on the model. For details, please see the list below.
      • If you use a battery, make sure it is fully recharged. If the battery grip with size-AA/LR6 batteries is attached, manual sensor cleaning will not be possible.

      7. Using a commercially available blower, blow dust that is stuck to the surface while preventing the blower from directly touching the sensor.

      8. After ending the cleaning, set the power switch to .

      ATTENTION

      • While cleaning the sensor, never do any of the following. If the power is cut off, the shutter will close and the shutter curtains and image sensor might get damaged.

      - Setting the power switch to .
      - Opening the battery compartment cover.
      - Opening the card slot cover.
      • The surface of the image sensor is extremely delicate. Clean the sensor with care.
      • Use a plain blower without any brush attached. A brush can scratch the sensor.
      • Do not insert the blower tip inside the camera beyond the lens mount. If the power is turned off, the shutter will close and the shutter curtains or reflex mirror might get damaged.
      • Never use canned air or gas to clean the sensor. The blowing force can damage the sensor or the spray gas can freeze on the sensor.
      • If a smudge that cannot be removed with a blower remains, having the sensor cleaned by a Canon Service Center is recommended.

  • Removing Dirt or Dust on the Viewfinder or Mirror

    • Use a blower to blow away dust on the lens, viewfinder, reflex mirror, and focusing screen. For stubborn dirt, take the camera to the nearest Canon Service Center.

      IMPORTANT

Do not use cleaners that contain organic solvents to clean the camera body or lens.
Because the materials used in the mirror are extremely soft, it could get damaged even if you simply touch the surface.
