    Installing the Printer Software for a Wireless Network Connection (Using an Access Point) using Mac OS X

    • Follow these steps to install your HP product on a wireless network.
       Important : Before you can install the product, your wireless network must already be set up. To set up your network, follow the instructions that came with your particular access point. You must also have the following information about the network:
      • Network name : The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
      • Password : WEP key or WPA passphrase


      To gather this information, you can ask the person who originally set up your network, see the documentation that came with the access point, or contact the manufacturer. HP cannot set up or change the network SSID, WEP key, or WPA passphrase.
       Important : Set up the HP hardware before installing the software. If you have not already done so, find the hardware setup document for your product before starting the following steps.
      • If you have not already installed your product, follow the steps in 'Option one: Wireless installation'.
      • If you want to change an existing connection type to a wireless network connection, follow the instructions in 'Option two: Change an existing USB or wired (Ethernet) connection to a wireless connection'.
      NOTE: If your product connects to a computer running Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or OS X 10.7 (Lion), do not install HP software supported in Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5. Older software is not compatible with Snow Leopard or Lion.
      If you have not previously installed the software, follow these steps to install your product on a wireless network.
       Important : You must follow these steps in the order presented .
      Step one: Prepare for installation
      1. Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
        • Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
        • WEP key or WPA security passphrase
        • A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
        • Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
        • Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
        • A USB cable (used only during installation).
        • Administrator privileges or password
      2. Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
      3. Connect the USB Cable to the rear port of the HP product and to any USB port on the computer.
      4. Exit all applications running on your computer.
      Step two: Decide whether to install with the product CD or download the software
      Don’t worry if you don’t have the product CD! You can download the most current software available for your product from the HP Web site at no cost. The following information might help you decide which installation method to use:

      For a new product:CD installation is a quick and easy method.If you do not have a CD, you can download the software you need.
      For an older product:CD installation might not work if you are installing the product on a computer running a newer operating system that released AFTER the HP product released.Downloading the software provides the best results for your older product. Even though it takes more time than using the CD, downloading the latest software can help you avoid installation issues.

      Downloading is the recommended method if your computer operating system released after the HP product released.
      About the software:The software on the CD is current to the date of the product release.The software that you can download from the HP Web site is the most current software available for your product. HP often updates software and drivers AFTER the product and CD release to the market.
      Step three: Install the software
      Choose one of the following methods to install the product software.
      NOTE:If you partitioned your hard drive, you must install the driver on the same partition as the operating system.
      You will experience the best performance and functionality if you download the latest HP software from Apple Software Updates . Follow these steps to update the software.
       Important : To successfully update the HP software and driver, the HP product must be turned on and connected to the Mac with a USB or network connection, or there must be an existing printer queue for your product.
      1. Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click Software Update . Software Update checks for available updates.
      2. In the Software Update window, select the software you want to install, and then click Install .
        NOTE: Install all available updates for best performance and functionality.
      3. When prompted, enter your administrator account name and password.
      4. After the software updates complete, restart the computer (if required).
      1. Click this link, Get Software and Drivers .
      2. If prompted, type your product number, and then click Next . You might also need to click your model in a list of similar products.
      3. Select your operating system, and then click Next .
      4. Click the Plus sign ( ) next to Driver , and then click the driver that you want to download. If you need help deciding, see the information in the previous table.
      5. Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click View directions ( ) for complete download instructions.
      6. Click the option that you want to download.
        A page displays with more information about that option and the specific items that it includes.
        NOTE:HP recommends the Full Feature type of download, if available, to take advantage of all your product features.
      7. Click Download . If your browser opens a new dialog box, you might also need to click Save or Save File .
        The file downloads to your computer.

      8. Double-click the icon above the file name. The computer extracts the files and displays a disk image file icon above the product name.

      9. Double-click the disk image file.
      10. Double-click the HP Installer icon.
        The HP Installer program opens.
      11. When prompted, select your HP product, and then click OK .
      12. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
      1. Insert the Macintosh product CD into the CD drive of the computer.
      2. Double-click the HP software disc icon that displays under the Macintosh HD icon.
      3. Double-click the HP Installer icon.
        The HP Installer program opens.
      4. When prompted, select your HP product, and then click OK .
      5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
      Choose one of the following methods to change an existing connection type to a wireless connection.
      Follow these steps to change the connection type with Bonjour.
      NOTE:The product software or the in-OS driver must be installed, and the product must be connected to the wireless network to change the connection type with Bonjour.
      1. Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences . The System Preferences window opens.
      2. Click Print & Fax in Mac OS X 10.6 and earlier, or click Print & Scan in OS X 10.7.
      3. In the Printers section, click the name of your product, and then click the Minus Sign ( ) to remove it.
      4. Click the Plus Sign ( ).
      5. Select your product from the list of Bonjour devices, and then click Add .
      Follow these steps to change the connection type with the HP Device Manager.
      NOTE:If you use the OS X 10.7 (Lion) operating system, use the method to change the connection type with Bonjour.
      1. Open HP Device Manager.

      2. From the Information and Settings drop-down menu, click Setup Assistant .
        The HP Setup Assistant window opens.
      3. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your connection type to an existing wireless network.
