  • Saving Movies on DVDs or Blu-ray Discs

    • The software that comes with the camera does not have a function for saving movies or still images that have been imported to a PC on DVDs or Blu-ray discs. Please use commercially available software to make DVDs or Blu-ray discs. 
      Note that you cannot connect your camera to a commercially available DVD/Blu-ray recorder with cables to import movies or still photos.


      NOTE

      Using ZoomBrowser EX, which comes with your camera, you can record still images on CD-R/RW discs. For further information, please refer to Saving images to CD-R/CD-RW discs (ZoomBrowser EX Ver6.7).


      REFERENCE

      • To view movies on a DVD playback device (such as a DVD player), it is necessary to convert your movie files to a type that can be played back on a DVD playback device by using what is generally called "DVD authoring software." Please refer to the instruction manual supplied with your camera for information about file types for images.
      • It may not be possible to play back the discs you have created on some playback devices. When you use commercially available software, please see the instruction manuals to check the specifications of the playback device in use.

  • The Message Cannot playback image Appears

    • When playing back images on a camera, if the "Cannot playback image" message appears, the main causes are as follows.

      1. You are trying to play back images captured with a non-Canon camera. 
      2. Images in the memory card have been imported to a computer and rotated or edited and then written back to a memory card.

      Import the images to a computer and check if they can be displayed. For information on how to import images to a computer, please see the EOS Utility Instruction Book bundled with the camera. 


      REFERENCE

      If ZoomBrowser EX is used for rotating or editing images, and these images are later written back to a memory card, this phenomenon will not occur.

      3. The memory card is malfunctioning.

      If you have multiple memory cards, initialize another memory card and take some test shots. If images can be played back normally, the card that shows the error message may be malfunctioning. 
      In this case, initializing the memory card may solve the issue.


      ATTENTION

      When the card is formatted, all images and data in the card will be erased. Even protected images will be erased, so make sure there is nothing you need to keep. If necessary, transfer the images to a computer, etc., before formatting the card.

  • What software can I use to process/edit/print RAW images?

    • You can process, edit, and print RAW images with the Digital Photo Professional software that came with your camera. You can also add insert text or the date into images and print them in ZoomBrowser EX (Windows) or ImageBrowser (Macintosh).

  • Using the rating function to add rating marks to your favorite images captured with the EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D

    • With the Rating function, you can give one of five ratings (  /  /  /  /  ) to images and movies. This is a convenient function to only display the images that have these rating marks.
      The details about how to add the rating marks are as follows.

      1. Flip out the LCD monitor, and then set the power switch to .
      For the details about how to open the LCD monitor, see How to use the vari-angle LCD monitor of the EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D.

      2. Press the

      button to display the menu.

      3. Under the [  ] tab, select the [Rating] menu, then press button.

      4. Press the to select the image or movie to be rated.

      You can display three images by pressing the <  > button. To return to the single-image display, press the <  > button.

      5. Press <  > (Cross Keys) up or down to select a rating mark.

      • The total number of images and movies rated will be counted for each rating.
      • To rate another image or movie, repeat steps 4 and 5.


      6. To exit and return to the menu, press the

      button.


      NOTE

      • With the [Image jump w/ ] menu under the [  ] tab, you can display only the rated images and movies. With the [Slide show] menu, you can playback only the rated images and movies.
      • With the provided software (Digital Photo Professional etc.), you can select only the rated images and movies.
      • With Windows Vista and Windows 7, you can check the rating with the file information display or the provided image viewer.

  • Connecting EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D to a TV to view (play back) still images and movies on the TV

    • Viewing still photos and movies on TV sets

      With this camera, you can also view still photos and movies on a TV set. To view images on the camera's memory card, it is necessary to connect the camera and television using a stereo AV cable or an HDMI cable. 
      Viewing images by connecting the camera with non-HD and HD (high-definition) TV sets is explained below.

      ATTENTION

      • Before connecting or disconnecting the cable between the camera and television, turn off the camera and television.


      NOTE

      • Adjust the movie's sound volume with the TV set.
      • Depending on the TV set, part of the image displayed might be cut off.

      Viewing on Non-HD (High-Definition) TV Sets

      1. Connect the provided AV cable to the camera.
      With the plug’s logo facing the back of the camera, insert it into the < A/V OUT > terminal.

      2. Connect the AV cable to the TV set.
      Connect the AV cable to the TV’s video IN terminal and audio IN terminal.

      3. Turn on the TV and switch the TV's video input to select the connected port.

      4. Set the camera's power switch to .
      For the details about how to open the LCD monitor, see How to use the vari-angle LCD monitor of the EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D.

      5. Press the <  > (Playback) button.
      The image will appear on the TV screen. (Nothing will be displayed on the camera's LCD monitor.) 
      To playback the movie, see "Playing Back Movies".


      IMPORTANT

      • If the video system format does not match the TV’s, the images will not be displayed properly. Set the proper video system format with [ :Video system].
      • Do not use any AV cable other than the one provided. Images might not be displayed if you use a different cable.

      6. Press the to select a movie.

      • On the single-image display, the [  ] icon displayed on the upper left indicates a movie.
      • On the index display, the perforation on the left edge of the image indicates a movie. As movies cannot be played on the index display, press the button to switch to the single-image display.


      7. On the single-image display, press the button.
      The movie playback panel will appear on the bottom.

      8. Press the to select [  ], and then press the button to start playing the movie.
      You can pause the movie playback by pressing the button. 
      During movie play back, adjust the sound volume with the TV set. (Turning the

      will not adjust the sound volume.) 

      Viewing on HD (High-Definition) TV Sets

      The HDMI Cable HTC-100 (sold separately) is required to connect with HD TVs.

      1. Connect the HDMI cable to the camera.

      With the plug's <  HDMI MINI> logo facing the front of the camera, insert it into the terminal.

      2. Connect the HDMI cable to the TV's HDMI IN port.

      3. Turn on the TV and switch the TV's video input to select the connected port.

      4. Flip out the LCD monitor, and then set the power switch to .

      5. If the <  > (Playback) button is pressed, the image will appear on the TV screen. (Nothing will be displayed on the camera's LCD monitor.)

      • The images will be displayed automatically at the TV's optimum resolution.
      • By pressing the button, you can change the display format.
      • To playback the movie, follow the procedure below.



      IMPORTANT

      • Do not connect any other device's output to the camera's terminal. Doing so may cause a malfunction.
      • Certain TVs might not be able to playback the captured images. In such a case, use the provided AV cable to connect to the TV.
      • The camera's terminal and terminal cannot be used at the same time.


      REFERENCE

      For HDMI CEC TV sets
      When a TV set compatible with HDMI CEC is connected to the camera with the HDMI cable, you can use the TV set's remote control for playback operations. For more information, please refer to the instruction manuals that came with your camera.

      6. Press the to select a movie.



      7. On the single-image display, press the button.
      The movie playback panel will appear on the bottom.

      8. Press the to select [  ], and then press the button to start playing the movie.
      You can pause the movie playback by pressing the button. 
      During movie play back, adjust the sound volume with the TV set. (Turning the

      will not adjust the sound volume.)

      Shooting movies with the camera connected to a TV
      • When the camera is connected to a TV set via HDMI cable, the camera will read the information on the TV set's compatible video input signals. The camera then selects the optimum video output signal (1080/60i, 1080/50i, 480/60p, or 576/50p) and the video is displayed.
      • The video image displayed on an HDMI-connected TV set while no movie is being shot (movie Live View) is displayed on the camera's LCD monitor. It cannot be displayed in 16:9 on the LCD monitor.
      • When movie shooting starts while the camera is connected to a TV set via HDMI, the video signal will automatically switch to 480/60p or 576/50p due to the imaging engine's compatible limits, resulting in a smaller image size. However, many HD TV sets will automatically try and fit the image to 16:9, so it will look unnatural with the image stretched horizontally.
      • If you connect the camera to a TV set and shoot a movie, the TV will not output any sound during the shooting. However, the sound will be properly recorded.

  • Editing the Movies with the Camera (EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D) (Editing the First and Last Scenes of a Movie)

    • With your camera, you can edit out the first and last scenes of a movie in 1-sec. increments. You can select [Overwrite] to save and overwrite the original movie, or [New file] to save the movie as a new movie. This operation is carried on the movie playback screen.

      1. Set the power switch to .

      2. Press the <  > to display the image.

      3. Press the to select the image.

      • During the single-image display, the [  ] icon displayed on the upper left indicates that it is a movie.
      • During the index display, the perforation on the left edge of the image indicates that it is a movie. Movies cannot be played on the index display, so press the button to switch to the single-image display.


      4. On the single-image display, press the button.
      The movie playback panel will appear on the bottom.

      5. Press the to select [  ], then press the button.
      The editing screen will be displayed.

      6. Specify the parts to be edited out.

      6-1. Press the to select either [  ] (Cut beginning) or [  ] (Cut end), then press the button.


      6-2. Press the to see the previous or next frames. Holding it down will fast forward the frames.

      • After deciding which part to edit out, press the button.
      • The portion highlighted in blue on the top of the screen is what will remain.
      • Since the editing is done in 1-sec. increments (position indicated by [  ]), the exact position where the movie is edited may differ slightly from the position you specified.





      7. Check the editing.

      • Press the to select [  ], and then press the button to playback the portion highlighted in blue.
      • To change the editing, go back to step 6.
      • To cancel the editing, select [  ] and press the button.


      8. Press the to select [  ], then press the button to save the movie. The save screen will appear.
      To save it as a new movie, select [New file]. Or to save it and overwrite the original movie file, select [Overwrite]. Then press the button.


      NOTE

      If the card does not have enough space to save the movie, only [Overwrite] can be selected.

  • Can I apply Creative filters to images captured by EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D? (Creative filters)

    • You can apply "Creative filters" to an image and save it as a new image: Toy camera effect, and Miniature effect etc.

      Creative Filter Features


      Grainy B/WMakes the image grainy and black and white. By adjusting the contrast, you can change the black-and-white effect.
      Soft focusGives the image a soft look. By adjusting the blur, you can change the degree of softness.
      Fish-eye effectGives the effect of a fish-eye lens. The image will have a barrel-type distortion. Depending on the level of this filter effect, the area trimmed along the periphery of the image changes. Also, since this filter effect will magnify the image center, the apparent resolution at the center may degrade depending on the number of recorded pixels. So in step 5, set the filter effect while checking the resulting image.
      Toy camera effectGives a color cast typical of toy cameras and darkens the image's fours corners. By adjusting the color tone, you can change the color cast.
      Miniature effectCreates a diorama effect. You can change where the image looks sharp. In step 5, you can press the <INFO.> button to change the orientation (vertical/horizontal) of the white frame that shows where you want the image to look sharp.

      How to apply Creative filters to an image

      1. Set the power switch to .

      2. Press the

      button to display the menu.

      3. Under the [  ] tab, select [Creative filters], and then press the button. Images will be displayed.

      • Press the to select the image you want to apply a filter to.
      • By pressing the <  > button, you can switch to the index display and select an image.



      4. When you press the button, the filters will be displayed.


      • Press the to select a filter, then press the button.
      • The image applied with the respective filter will be displayed.

      5. Press the to adjust the filter effect, then press the button.
      For the miniature effect, press the and select the image area (within the white frame) where you want it to look sharp. Then press the button.


      NOTE

      For the miniature effect, you can press the button to change the orientation (vertical/horizontal) of the white frame that shows where you want the image to look sharp.

      6. Select [OK] to save the image.
      Note the destination folder and image file number, then select [OK]. 
      To apply a filter to another image, press the

      button to return to the image selection screen, and then repeat steps 3 to 6. 

      7. To exit and return to the menu, press the

      button.


      NOTE


      With  + JPEG images, the RAW image will be applied with the Creative filter and saved as a JPEG image.

  • How do I resize images captured by EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D with the camera? (How to resize an image to make the pixel count lower.)

    • With your camera, you can resize an image to make the pixel count lower and save it as a new image. Resizing an image is possible only with JPEG L / M / S1 / S2 images.


      IMPORTANT

      JPEG S3 and RAW images cannot be resized. 

      How to resize images

      1. Flip out the LCD monitor, then set the power switch to .
      For the details about how to open the LCD monitor, see How to use the vari-angle LCD monitor of the EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D.

      2. Press the

      button to display the menu.

      3. Under the [  ] tab, select [Resize] menu option, and then press the button. Images will be displayed.

      4. Press the to select the image you want to resize.

      By pressing the <  > button, you can switch to the index display and select an image.

      5. Press the button to display the image sizes. Press the to select the desired image size, then press the button.


      NOTE

      The target sizes ( M / S1 / S2 / S3 ) in this window will be smaller than the original size. For example, if the original image size is S1, you can select S2 or S3.

      6. Select [OK] to save the image, and then press the button.

      7. Note the destination folder and image file number, then select [OK].
      To resize another image, press the

      button to return to the image selection screen, and then repeat steps 4 to 7.

      8. To exit and return to the menu, press the

      button.

      About Image Sizes

      The [4.5M 2592x1728] image size displayed in step 5 has a 3:2 aspect ratio. The image size according to aspect ratios is shown in the table below. For asterisked image-recording quality, the pixel count does not exactly match the aspect ratio. The image will be slightly cropped.

  • Managing Images in a Camera (Creating a Folder / Numbering a File)(EOS REBEL T3i/EOS 600D)

    • You can freely create and select the folder where the captured images are to be saved.


      NOTE

      This is optional since a folder will be created automatically for saving captured images.

      Creating and selecting a folder to save an image

      To create a folder or to select a folder to save to, follow steps below.

      1. Set the power switch to .

      2. Press the

      button to bring up the menu screen.

      3. Under the [  ] tab, select [Select folder], then press the button.

      4. Select [Create folder], then press the button.

      5. Select [OK], then press the button.
      A new folder with a higher one-up folder number is created.

      6. With the folder selection screen displayed, select a folder and press the button.
      In the figure below, steps 4 and 5 are repeated to create five folders and [105CANON] is selected. 

      7. The screen in step 3 will appear. Subsequent captured images will be recorded into the selected folder.


      NOTE

      • As with "100CANON" for example, the folder name starts with three digits (folder number) followed by five alphanumeric characters.
      • A folder can contain up to 9999 images (file No. 0001 - 9999). When a folder becomes full, a new folder with a higher one-up folder number is created automatically.
      • Also, if manual reset is executed, a new folder will be created automatically.
      • Folders numbered from 100 to 999 can be created.

      File numbering methods

      The image files will be numbered from 0001 to 9999 in the order the images are taken, then saved in a folder. You can assign or change the file number as needed.
      The file number will appear on your computer in this format: IMG_0001.JPG.
      There are three types on file numbering, [Continuous], [Auto reset], and [Manual reset].

      The file numbering continues in sequence even after you replace the card or create a folder.Even after you replace the card or create a new folder, the file numbering continues in sequence up to 9999. This is convenient when you want to save images numbered anywhere between 0001 to 9999 in multiple cards or folders into one folder in your personal computer.If the replacement card or existing folder already contains images recorded previously, the file numbering of the new images might continue from the file numbering of the existing images in the card or folder. If you want to use continuous file numbering, you should use a newly-formatted card each time.

      The file numbering is reset to 0001 whenever you replace the card or create a folder.Whenever the card is replaced or a new folder created, the file numbering starts from 0001. This is convenient if you want to organize images according to cards or folders.If the replacement card or existing folder already contains images recorded previously, the file numbering of the new images might continue from the file numbering of the existing images in the card or folder. If you want to save images with the file numbering starting from 0001, use a newly formatted card each time.

      To reset the file numbering to 0001 manually or to start from file number 0001 in a new folder.When you reset the file numbering manually, a new folder is created automatically and the file numbering of images saved to that folder starts from 0001. This is convenient if you want to use different folders for the images taken yesterday and the ones taken today, for example.After the manual reset, the file numbering returns to continuous or auto reset. (There will be no Manual reset confirmation screen.)

      To set the file numbering, follow the steps below. 

      1. Under the [  ] tab, select [File numbering], then press the button.

      2. See the description above to select an item, and then press the button. 


      IMPORTANT

      If the file number in folder No. 999 reaches 9999, shooting will not be possible even if the card still has storage capacity. The LCD monitor will display a message telling you to replace the card. Replace it with a new card.

      NOTE

      On the personal computer, For both JPEG and RAW images, the file name will start with "IMG_". Movie file names will start with "MVI_". The extension will be ".JPG" for JPEG images, ".CR2" for RAW images, and ". MOV" for movies.
