  • File formats that can be played or viewed

    • Find out which video file formats can be played or viewed on PS3.

      File formats that can be played or viewed on this system include ATRAC™, MP3, AAC, JPEG and MPEG-4.

      The following types of files can be played under  Video:

      Memory Stick Video Format

      • MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
      • H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)
      • MPEG-2 TS(H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, AAC LC)

      MP4 file format

      • H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)

      MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2) 
      MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM

      Note:

      • Only files that are playable or viewable on the PS3 system are displayed in the column for the compatible category (Example: Image data is displayed under Photo).
      • Depending on the storage media, only a subset of the folders on the media may be displayed. If you select [Display All] from the options menu, all folders saved on the media will be displayed.
      • You should where possible make periodic back-ups of data stored on the hard disk drive as a precaution against possible loss or corruption. If for any reason software or data loss or corruption occurs, it is not possible to restore or repair the software or data. Note that SCEE will not be liable for any loss or corruption of data, files or software.

  • Photo on PS3

    • With a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) at your disposal, PlayStation 3 is the ideal home for all your photographic memories.

      Transfer your images from an array of other devices - such as your PSP, digital camera, camera phone, USB drive, etc - via the relevant cable into one of the USB ports.

      Once stored on the PS3 HDD, you can organise the photos into folders, view in an array of slideshows and even send to your Friends on PlayStation®Network.

      You can access images stored on your PS3 HDD via Remote Play with your PSP. Your digital photo albums, holding years and years of memories are now literally at your fingertips.

  • Share and view your friends photos

    • Go to [Photo Gallery] > [PlayStation®Network Area] to browse photos from Facebook or Picasa™ Web Albums on your PS3 system.

      You can also share photos from Photo Gallery with your Friends on PlayStation Network. To use this feature, you must have a PlayStation Network account as well as an account with Facebook or Picasa™ Web Albums.


       
      Browsing photos on Facebook or Picasa™ Web Albums

      1. In the [Library Area] of Photo Gallery, press the R1 button on the Wireless Controller two times.
      You will be directed to [PlayStation®Network Area]. The sign-in screen will be displayed if you are not yet signed in to PlayStation®Network.
      2. Select [Facebook] or [Picasa™ Web Albums], and then enter your account information.

      • If you want to enter account information for both Facebook and Picasa™ Web Albums, press the Triangle button in [PlayStation®Network Area], and then select [Add Network Service] to enter account information for the other network service.

      Uploading a photo

      1. In the [Library Area] or [Playlist Area] of Photo Gallery, select the photo or playlist that you want to upload, and then press the Triangle button.
      2. Select [Upload].
      3. Select [Facebook] or [Picasa™ Web Albums].
      A login screen for the network service will be displayed if you are not already logged in to the service.
      4. Select the album to which you want to add the photo.
      To create a new album, select [Create New Album].
      5. Edit the album information, and then select [Upload].
      You can view the uploaded album from the [PlayStation®Network Area] of Photo Gallery or by accessing the network service from a Web browser.


       
      Sharing an uploaded album with Friends

      1. In [PlayStation®Network Area], select the album that you want to share, and then press the Triangle button.
      2. Select [Share This Album].
      Edit the message that is displayed, and then select the Friend to whom you want to send the message.

      Editing an album

      You can edit the title or description of an album.

      1. In [PlayStation®Network Area], select the album that you want to edit, and then press the Triangle button.
      2. Select [Edit] to edit the album.

      Adding comments to a photo

      You can add comments to a photo.

      1. In [PlayStation®Network Area], select the photo that you want to add comments to, and then press the Triangle button.
      2. Select [Comment] to add comments on the screen that is displayed.

      • You cannot delete comments for a photo that is viewed in Photo Gallery. To delete comments, access the photo by logging in to Facebook or Picasa™ Web Albums from a Web browser, and then delete the comments from there.

  • Use zoom display

    • Get up close and personal with your images with the zoom display feature

      You can use zoom display for images under Photo. Press the Triangle button while an image is displayed to display the control panel, and then select [Zoom In] or [Zoom Out]. You can use the left stick of the Wireless Controller to scroll in any direction and use the right stick to zoom in or out.

  • Use the Slideshow feature

    • View a collection of images using the Slideshow feature on PS3.

      There are a number of slideshow options for viewing photos. When you select a folder or image under Photo and press the START button, the slideshow will begin. Press the Triangle button during a slideshow to display the control panel, and then select from the options available within [Slideshow Style].

      Photo Gallery is an application that enhances the experience of viewing photos saved on the PS3 system. You can group photos in various ways such as by date and time, by event, or by the number of people in the photos.

      You can also create a playlist of selected photos and select a photo frame for the playlist.

      Starting Photo Gallery

      To use Photo Gallery, you must first download and install the Photo Gallery application. Go to Photo > [Photo Gallery] on the PS3 Home Menu (XMB) to download the application. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Photo Gallery will start automatically after it is installed.

      Hint

      • To install Photo Gallery, you must have at least 110 MB of free space on your PS3 system's hard disk.

      Deleting Photo Gallery

      You can delete Photo Gallery from the hard disk. Go to Photo > [Photo Gallery] on the PS3 Home Menu (XMB), press the Triangle button, and then select [Delete] from the options menu.

      Hint

      • Even if the application is deleted, the [Photo Gallery] icon will remain on the PS3 Home Menu (XMB). If you select the icon, Photo Gallery will be downloaded again.

    • Find out how to print a photo in [Photo Gallery].

      1. Connect a printer to the PS3 system.
      2. In [Photo Gallery], select the photo that you want to print, and then press the Triangle button.
      3. Select [Print].
      4. Check the print settings.
      You can press the Triangle button to display the options menu. You can adjust settings such as the number of copies to be printed. The settings that are available vary depending on the printer in use.

      • To use this feature, you must first set up the printer under Settings > [Printer Settings] > [Printer Selection].

  • Select a printer

    • Find out how to select a printer for outputting your photos from PS3.

      Under Settings > [Printer Settings] > [Printer Selection], you can select printers that support network connectivity. You can also select HP printers using the [HP] option.

      Select [Printer Selection] under Settings > [Printer Settings], and then follow the on-screen instructions to select the printer.

      Hint

      • If you select [Other (Network Standard)], a list of printers that are available on the PS3 system's network is displayed regardless of the printer manufacturer.

  • Print images from a playlist

    • Find out how you can print a group of images from a playlist.

      You can print images from a playlist that was created under Photo.

      To print an image, select the image, and then press the Triangle button to display the options menu. Then select [Print].

      Hint

      • Before printing, you must connect and set up the printer by selecting Settings > [Printer Selection].

  • Print a single image

    • Since system software 1.80 it has been possible to print photos stored on your PlayStation 3 by connecting a compatible printer.

      1. Connect a compatible printer to the PlayStation 3 via the USB connector.
      2. Under Photo, select the image that you want to print and then open the options menu.

      3. Select Print from the options menu.
      4. Check the print settings. You can open the options menu and change the print settings. The items that can be set vary depending on the printer in use.

      5. Select Print to begin printing.

      Notes

      • Some Epson printers are compatible with system software version 1.80. Please check here for the latest list of compatible Epson printers.
      • To print an image that is saved on a media server, you must first copy the image to your PlayStation 3.
