Find out more about changing your controller settings.

You can change controller settings by selecting Settings > [Accessory Settings].

Reassign Controllers: If a controller port or number is specified by the software, you can use this setting to assign the appropriate controller port or number.*
Controller Vibration Function: You can set the vibration function to on or off. It is set to [On] by default.

* You cannot assign controller port 2-D using this system.

Note: You can change settings for the controller during gameplay by pressing the PS button. Select Settings > [Accessory Settings] in the XMB™ screen, or select [Controller Settings] from the screen that is displayed.

You can reconnect Bluetooth® audio devices with the PS3 system in [Audio Device Settings] under Settings > [Accessory Settings].

If a Bluetooth® audio device has been disconnected from the PS3 system, you can reconnect the device by selecting it from the list in [Audio Device Settings] under Settings > [Accessory Settings]. Press the Triangle button to display the options menu, and then select [Connect].

Registering a BD remote control

Select [Register BD Remote Control] under Settings > [Accessory Settings] in the PS3 Home Menu. Follow the on-screen instructions to register your BD remote control.

Note: You can register only one BD remote control at a time. If you register another BD remote control, you will overwrite information about the currently registered remote control.

Registering a Bluetooth-compatible device

Select [Manage Bluetooth® Devices] under Settings > [Accessory Settings] in the PS3 Home Menu. If you already have registered Bluetooth devices, select [Register New Device] from the list. Follow the on-screen instructions to register the new device.

If you already have the maximum number of devices registered, you must first delete a device that you are not using from the registered devices list.

Managing Bluetooth devices

You can confirm the connection status of Bluetooth-compatible devices on your PS3 system, or connect and disconnect devices. To do so, select [Manage Bluetooth® Devices] under Settings > [Accessory Settings] in the PS3 Home Menu. After selecting the device that you want to manage, press the Triangle button, and then select an option from the options menu.

Camera Device Settings

The [Camera Device Settings] option under Settings > [Accessory Settings] (PS3 system software 1.80 and above required) lets you test the image of a camera that is connected to the system using a USB cable.

Flicker Reduction

Some types of cameras enable you to adjust settings to reduce flickering. Flickering can be reduced by adjusting the power frequency of the camera. The items that are displayed vary depending on the camera in use.

Off: Disable flicker reduction.
Camera Default Settings: Use the camera's default value.
50 Hz: Set the camera's power frequency to 50 Hz.
60 Hz: Set the camera's power frequency to 60 Hz.

Using the PlayStation 3 Custom Theme Guidelines, you can create your very own custom theme to give your PS3 a fresh new look. You will need:-

• Access to a PC; you can create a custom theme on a Mac as long as it is running Windows OS.
• The PlayStation 3 Custom Theme Guidelines zip file, which can be downloaded from eu.playstation.com/ps3-custom-themes.
• A PlayStation 3 system with the latest system software update installed.
• A USB external drive so that you can transfer your theme from your PC to your PS3 system.

A theme comprises the background image on your PS3 system, as well as the XMB menu icons, and it's up to you how many of these you choose to update.

To view a list of pre-installed and downloaded themes on your PS3 system, go to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme and press the X button.

Before you start, you'll need to come up with an idea for your theme. This can be based on anything from your favourite games, movies or characters; it can even be an art style or look and feel that you particularly like.

1. Getting started

Create a copy of the folder PS3_Custom_Theme_v180\sample\simple\ on your PC hard drive and rename it, e.g. MyTheme.

2. Create a background image

Once you've settled on an idea for your custom theme, you can create a background image which will sit behind the icons on the XMB menu.

When creating the image, you'll need to consider how the XMB icons will sit on it so that these remain legible.

You can create the background image using any photo editing software on a PC, such as Adobe Photoshop, as long as you can output the image in a .jpeg file format. Save the background to the folder you created in step 1.

Note:

• For High Definiton TVs, you will need to create an image which is 1920 x 1080 pixels and you will need to name the file a_HD.jpg
• For Standard Definition TV, you will need to create an image which is 640 x 480 pixels and you will need to name the file a_SD.jpg
• You can create multiple background images for your particular theme up to a maximum of 24. These are selected randomly by the PS3 system when it starts up.
• The maximum file size for an individual background image is 2MB.

3. Devise a style for your XMB icons

There are over 60 XMB menu icons that can be customised and it's up to you how many you change.

In the folder you created in step 1, select one of the icon files - the ones which have a file name such as icon_game.png - and open this in your photo editing software. You cannot use the file icon.png for this.

You can then base your design on this icon; this could include applying a unique colour scheme, illustration style or simply just adding a photo of yourself to the icon.

Once you've settled on the style of your icon, save it as a .png file by overwriting the existing file.

Note:

• You must not change the file name, e.g. icon_game.png, otherwise it will not work.

4. Apply your chosen style to the remaining XMB menu icons

Now you can open the rest of the icons in the folder you created in step 1 and apply the same style to these. Remember that once you've completed each one, you should then overwrite each existing file.

As in step 3, you must not change the file name of any of the icons otherwise these will not work on your PS3 system.

5. Check your background and icons

Before proceeding to the next step, it's really important that you check that your background and all of the XMB icons have been created in the correct file format, using the correct filenames and that they have all been saved to the folder you created in step 1.

6. Name your custom theme

Locate the file simple.xml in the folder you created in step 1, rename it – e.g. MyTheme.xml – and open it in a text editor such as Notepad or Word Pad on your PC.

Find and replace the text "sample(simple)" with the name you would like to use as your custom theme, e.g. "My Theme"; this is also the name that will appear on the XMB menu under Settings > Theme Settings > Theme. Save the .xml file in the folder you created in step 1.

7. Compile your custom theme

Drag the .xml file you created in step 6 over the p3tcompiler.exe PC tool which is in the PS3_Custom_Theme_v180 folder and select Run if prompted. Your custom theme will then compile in a separate window and, once complete, you will be prompted to hit the Enter key on your keyboard.

If everything has gone to plan, the compiler tool should have created multiple .gim files as well as one .p3t file in the folder you created in step 1.

8. Transfer your new custom theme to your PS3

You are now ready to transfer your custom theme to your PS3. On your USB external drive, create a folder called PS3, and within this folder create another folder called THEME.

Locate the file MyTheme.p3t in the folder you created in step 1 and save this to the folder called THEME on your USB external drive.

Once complete, connect the USB external drive to your PS3 via one of the USB connectors. On your PS3, go to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme and select Install. Select from the available devices using the X button and then highlight your custom theme and press the X button to install it.

9. Apply your custom theme

Once the installation process has finished, go to Settings > Theme Settings > Theme and press the X button to select your custom theme.

That's it; you've now created your very own custom theme for your PS3.

Premium Themes

This is where you will find a range of premium themes with a wide variety of influences, ranging from games to nature, seasonal events and more.

Find out how you can select an image under Photo to be your PS3 system's Wallpaper.

While displaying the image, press the Triangle button, and then select [Set as Wallpaper] from the control panel that is displayed. Follow the on-screen instructions to set the wallpaper.

• If you do not want to display the wallpaper, adjust the setting under Settings > [Theme Settings] > [Wallpaper].

Theme Settings

[Theme] is an option under Settings > [Theme Settings]. You can use this option to customise the PS3 Home Menu icons or background design.
You can download themes from PlayStation Store or from the SCE web site for your region.

The options available include:

Install: Install a theme that is saved on storage media onto the hard disk.

Original: Set to the original theme.

Air Paint: Set to the Air Paint theme.

(theme name): Select a theme that is saved on the hard disk.

• When a theme file contains more than one background design, the background will change at random.

Additional Theme Settings

[Colour], [Background] and [Font] are options under Settings > [Theme Settings].

Colour

This option lets you set the background color of the PS3 Home Menu screen.

Original: Set to the original background colour.
(colour swatches): Set the selected color as the background colour.

Background

This option lets you set the background used in the theme or the image selected as wallpaper under Photo as the background of the PS3 Home Menu screen.

If you select [Brightness], the brightness of the PS3 Home Menu background will change. By changing the brightness of the background, you can make the PS3 Home Menu icons easier to see.

Brightness: Change the brightness of the background.
Original: Set to the original theme.
(theme name): Set to use the background of a theme that has been set under [Theme].
Wallpaper: Set the image that has been selected as wallpaper under Photo as the background.

• When a theme file contains more than one background design, the background will change at random.

Font

This option lets you set the font type to be used in the PS3 Home Menu screen or in messages under Friends.

Original: Use the default font.
Rounded : Use the Rounded font.
Rimouski: Use the Rimouski font.

• When the system language of the PS3 system is set to Korean, simplified Chinese characters or traditional Chinese characters, you cannot adjust settings under [Font].
• When the system language of the PS3 system is set to Russian, you cannot select the [Rimouski] font.

LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR THE GUIDELINE OF THEME AND THE DEVELOPMENT TOOL OF THEME FOR PlayStation®3
PLEASE READ THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT CAREFULLY TO UNDERSTAND YOUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS.

ANY USE OF OR ACCESS TO SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT INC. ("SCE")'S GUIDELINE OF THEME FOR PlayStation®3 ("PS3™") OR THE DEVELOPMENT TOOL OF THEME FOR PS3™ IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED UPON ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT.

This Agreement is a contract between you and SCE. This Agreement applies to the Guideline of Theme for PS3™, the Development Tool of Theme for PS3™, any updates, upgrades, new versions, and any information or support provided in connection thereof (collectively, the "Tools").

1. LICENSE GRANT

Subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement, the Tools are licensed to you solely for personal, non-commercial use for your development, use and distribution of Themes (as defined below) solely for and on the PS3™ and in accordance with the Guideline of Theme for PS3™. "Themes" are customized depictions, images, or sounds created by users to personalize the Xross Media Bar on the PS3™ on such items including wall papers, icons, thumbnails, and background music. All intellectual property rights in the Tools belong to SCE, and any use of the Tools shall be subject to the terms of this Agreement and all applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. Except as expressly granted in this Agreement, SCE reserves all rights, interests and remedies. This license may be revoked by SCE at any time upon notice to you.

2. RESTRICTIONS

2.1 You may not do any of the following acts in accessing or using any of the Tools: 
(i) modify, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble any portion of the Tools, to the fullest extent permitted by law;
(ii) interfere with any system, hardware, software, or network; 
(iii) conduct any activities that may violate any local, state or federal regulations or laws;
(iv) create or introduce any content or sound that may be harmful to SCE, its subsidiaries, affiliates, licensors, or users such as any code or virus that may damage any property or interfere with the use of any system, hardware, software or network; and 
(v) exploit the Tools in any manner other than to use it in accordance with the accompanying documentation and this Agreement. 
2.2 You may not do any of the following acts in creating or distributing any Themes:
(i) use any language, image, or sound that may be offensive, vulgar, hateful, defaming, threatening, libelous, bullying, or racially, ethnically, religiously, or sexually offensive or objectionable;
(ii) use any of SCE's or any of its subsidiaries' trademarks, service marks, or logos;
(iii) use any language, image, or sound that may dilute, disparage or undermine any of SCE's or any of its subsidiaries', publisher's, licensor's, affiliate's, trademarks, service marks, goodwill or reputation;
(iv) use any language, image, or sound that may be commercial in nature such as advertisements, solicitations, marketing or promotions; and
(v) use any image or sound or intellectual property that belongs to any party with whom you have not received the proper expressed consent to use, modify, reproduce, and distribute. 
Without limiting any of SCE's remedies, you irrevocably agree that you shall immediately cease use and distribution of Themes upon notice from SCE. You also agree that you will cooperate with SCE, at your sole expense, to remove the Themes from website or other material or equipment and mitigate any damages to SCE.

3. DISTRIBUTION REQUIREMENTS

Should you choose to distribute the Themes to any third party, you must provide notice with the Themes that you are providing the Themes "AS IS" without any representations or warranties from SCE, and that SCE has not endorsed or is in any way associated or affiliated with your Themes.

4. WARRANTY DISCLAIMER AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

Your use of the Tools and your development, use and distribution of Themes are at your sole risk. No warranty is given about the quality, usability, or functionality of the Tools. The Tools are provided "AS IS". SCE expressly disclaims any express or implied warranty of merchantability, warranty of fitness for a particular purpose and warranty of non-infringement. SCE EXCLUDES ALL LIABILITY FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFIT, OR ANY OTHER LOSS OR DAMAGE SUFFERED BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY, WHETHER DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL HOWEVER ARISING, AS A RESULT OF DOWNLOAD OR USE OF THE TOOLS OR ANY DEVELOPMENT, USE OR DISTRIBUTION OF THE THEMES EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS, EXCLUSIONS AND DISCLAIMERS SHALL APPLY TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, EVEN IF ANY REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.

5. GENERAL LEGAL

SCE, at its sole discretion, may modify the terms of this Agreement at any time. Your continued use of the Tools or development or distribution of the Themes will signify your acceptance of any changes to this Agreement.

* At present, you can only change the font when using Japanese language.

Wallpaper

Set whether to use an image that was selected as wallpaper under Photo as the PS3 Home Menu background.

Use: Set to use the wallpaper that was selected under Photo.
Do Not Use: Set not to use wallpaper.

• If you do not want to display the wallpaper, adjust the setting under Settings > [Theme Settings] > [Wallpaper].
