- Question
Access content stored on other devices
- Answer
-
Use your PlayStation 3 to wirelessly access videos, photos and music stored on other media servers and digital devices.
If you have entertainment stored on various digital devices throughout the house, why not try using DLNA on your PlayStation 3 and other digital devices to bring all that content together in one convenient place.
What is DLNA?
DLNA stands for Digital Living Network Alliance and it allows compatible devices, such as PlayStation 3, PCs and compatible televisions, to join a network and share data wirelessly, via your Internet router.
Using PlayStation 3 to access content stored on other DLNA devices
- Enable [Media Server Connection] under Settings > [Network Settings] on the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar).
- You can connect, over the network, devices that are compatible with DLNA, including products made by other companies. You can also connect a Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Vista personal computer that has Windows Media Player 11 installed.
- When you turn on the PS3 system, DLNA servers on the same network are automatically detected and icons for the detected servers are displayed under Photo, Music or Video on the XMB. If you select an icon, you can play content that is available for shared access on each DLNA server*.
*You cannot play copyright-protected content. Some other content, such as video and audio formats not supported by PS3, may not be played using the DLNA server feature.
Using PlayStation 3 to search for DLNA devices manually
If you select [Search for Media Servers] under Photo, Music or Video, you can initiate a search for DLNA servers on the same network. Use this feature if no DLNA server is detected when the PS3 system is turned on.
- Enable [Media Server Connection] under Settings > [Network Settings] on the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar).
