  • Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi - Email Set-up

    • Introduction

The first time you open Email, you are prompted to set up an email account. After that, you can configure Email to send and receive email from additional accounts. The accounts that you configure are displayed in the Accounts screen.

The Email setup wizard helps you set up your account for many popular email systems, including those based on IMAP and POP3, so you can read and work with the same email as you do on a computer in Thunderbird, Mac Mail, in a web browser, or with another email application. If your service provider requires additional settings, or if your service provider is unknown to Email, you can enter the necessary details manually, though you will typically need to contact your email service provider to determine the right settings for your account.

      Add an email account

      1. From the home screen, touch Apps
      2. Touch Settings
      3. Touch Accounts & Sync > Add account > Email
In the Setup Email screen, enter your email address and password. If you’re adding a second or subsequent email address, you can also check the option to use the new account to send all outgoing messages.
      1. Touch Next. Or, if you need to enter email account settings the wizard can’t configure for you, touch Manual setup
If you touch Next, Email attempts to communicate with your email service provider to validate your account for sending and receiving mail, using just your email address and password. This is sufficient for most email services.

Depending on the service provider, you may be asked what kind of email account you have. If you’re not sure, check the settings in the application you use to send and receive email on your computer, or ask your email service provider.

If the wizard determines that your service provider requires additional information, or if you touched Manual setup, you’re prompted to enter your email account details.

The details you enter are different, depending on the email service type. Contact your email service provider for the values required for your account or click here for some common ISP email settings.

      1. Enter any other information requested by the type of account you’re adding and touch Done
      2. Enter a name for the account and touch Done
Email starts downloading your email messages and you can start using it to send and receive messages using the new account.

      Delete an email account
      1. From the home screen, touch Apps
      2. Touch Settings
      3. Touch Accounts & Sync
      4. Touch  the account you want to delete
      5. Touch Remove account

      Changing email account settings
You can change the settings below for each email account when you create it or at any later time. These settings apply only to the account you’re working with. To change the settings for another email account, you must switch accounts.

  • MobileMe, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Some of my emails/updates don't seem to be pushed to my device

    • Symptoms

Your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may not always update when you read, delete, reply to, or move messages inMobileMe Mail, or in an email application on your Mac or PC.

      Products Affected

      iPhone, iPod touch, MobileMe, iPad

      Resolution

If your MobileMe Mail account is configured to use Push (in the Fetch New Data settings on your device), your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will automatically update to reflect the status of your MobileMe mail only when you receive a new message in your Inbox at your MobileMe email address.

Push notifications only work for new emails delivered to in your Inbox, not email read status.

Here are some examples of when you won't see messages automatically updated on your device:

      • if you read one of your MobileMe emails on the Mail application on your Computer so the email is marked as read, that email will still show as unread on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until you open Mail on the device. Once you open Mail on the device, the message status will be updated.
      • If you're using MobileMe Mail rules at me.com and have rules to move some messages to folders when they arrive in your Inbox, those emails will not automatically push to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You will find those messages in the destination folder set by rules the next time you manually check your mail on your device.

    • About

Welcome to Inside BlackBerry® Help Blog, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry smartphone support blog and the newest edition to the Inside BlackBerry blog family!

You’ve probably seen us (or our work) around in spaces such as the BlackBerry Support Community Forums@BlackBerryHelp on Twitter, and the Official BlackBerry® Channel on YouTube™. We’ve loved being engaged with the community through these channels (and will continue to do so!) and hope we have helped many of you out along way.

Through this support blog we feel we can add a little extra to the community by sharing knowledge and tips… before you even have to ask!

      What this blog is about

We’ve assembled some of our best technical support experts to provide tips and tricks, go in depth on features and show you how it all works.

But we know this blog isn’t just about us and our perspectives – it’s about YOU and what you need to know to get the most out of your BlackBerry smartphone. Be sure to join in the conversation and get connected with the great information being shared online!

      What this blog isn’t about

We’re excited to continue to contribute to the conversation, but that said, this isn’t the place to discuss topics like unreleased products, financial and forward-looking statements, service outages or carrier matters. Besides, these are matters where our topic experts aren’t, well, the experts.

Let us know what’s working and what’s not. See our Comments Policy, and you can also suggest a topicyou’d like to see discussed.
