  • What is Line Rental Saver?

    • What is Line Rental Saver?

Line Rental Saver is where you pay a year's line rental in advance. It costs £120 for 12 months in advance, equivalent to £10 a month.

You'll need to set up a Direct Debit to pay any additional charges, such as calls. You'll also need to have paper-free billing (any previous paper-free discount no longer applies).

You have to make a certain number of calls (these can be chargeable or inclusive calls) to meet the 'minimum call commitment'. If you're monthly billed you'll need to make at least two calls a month. If you're quarterly billed you need to make at least six calls in each quarter. Otherwise you'll be charged £1.50 a month (£4.50 a quarter).

Who can get Line Rental Saver?

New and existing customers can get Line Rental Saver (except for some customers who are on old versions of our products that we don't sell any more).

Can I get Line Rental Saver on more than one line?

No, you can only get Line Rental Saver on one of your phone lines.

      What if I move home?

You can take your Line Rental Saver with you if you move. You won't have to renew the payment plan, and the period you paid for stays the same.

However, if you take up certain offers when you move, you may have to cancel your Line Rental Saver, without getting a refund.

Does changing my Calling Plan affect my Line Rental Saver?

In most cases you will be able to change your Calling Plan and still keep your Line Rental Saver. However, a small number of our Calling Plans are not compatible with Line Rental Saver, and we will let you know if this is the case when you start your order online.

Will I be refunded any of my Line Rental Saver payment if I leave BT?

No, your Line Rental Saver payment is non-refundable.

What happens if I don't meet the minimum call commitment?

If you're monthly billed you'll need to make at least two calls a month. If you're quarterly billed you need to make at least six calls in each quarter (these can be chargeable or inclusive calls). Otherwise you'll be charged £1.50 a month (£4.50 a quarter).

How will I know when my Line Rental Saver term is coming to an end?

Your Line Rental Saver doesn't automatically renew. But don't worry, we'll email you about a month before the 12-month term ends to let you know how and when to reapply for Line Rental Saver. This information will also be on your bill. Learn more about renewing your annual Line Rental Saver.

  • What are the 36 International destinations included in the International Freedom add-on?

  • When are calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers free?

    • 0845 and 0870 numbers are usually used by large companies, banks and other businesses. Calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers are free from your BT landline - depending on which plan you're on.

If you're on the Unlimited Weekend Plan, these calls will be inclusive at the weekends, if you're on the Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan, they're included evenings and weekends and if you're on the Unlimited Anytime Plan, they're inclusive 24/7. This doesn't include dial-up internet calls to ISPs or indirect access numbers.

      Do I need to opt-in?

No, it's automatic. If you're on a calling plan (Unlimited Weekend Plan, Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan, Unlimited Anytime Plan, and BT working together). Customers on Broadband Talk and BT Basic Calling Plans also now automatically receive these calls free - depending on their plan.

I make most of these calls in the day, but am on Unlimited Weekend Plan/ Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan, why is it not free 24/7 for me?

In order to get inclusive 0870/0845 calls during the day, you can sign up to our Unlimited Anytime Plan for just £5 a month with a 12 month contract and get all of your UK landline calls inclusive as well. For more information on the deals available go to www.bt.com/calls

Are 0871 and 0844 calls included?

No, calls to 0871 and 0844 numbers are not included. Additionally, calls to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and indirect access numbers are not included.

What is an indirect access number?

An indirect access number is any number which connects you to another number that is both known by and could be directly dialled by you from your BT landline. The indirect access number charges a cheaper rate. There are typically two types of these calls.

      1. You first dial an 0870 or 0845 number, and then, while still connected, you dial the intended destination number to be connected
      2. You are connected directly to the intended destination number by dialling an 0870 or 0845 number, having previously routed the destination number through an 0870 or 0845 number, which can be done via the internet or by other means

Broadband Talk and BT Basic customers will receive these calls inlcusive from 1 April.

      * Pay and call customers will be on either the Unlimited Weekend Plan, Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan or the Unlimited Anytime Plan - inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers will be the same as these plans.

Is there a Fair Usage Policy?

You can make 1000 minutes of calls a month, or 150 calls a month. This is considerably more than most customers are likely to ever make. If you exceed either of these limits you'll just be charged the standard BT rates until further notice.

Why is there a Fair Usage Policy?

It is important that we set a limit to ensure we continue to be able to provide the inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers for all customers. We have set a limit of 1000 minutes of calls a month, or 150 calls a month. We're confident that we have set these limits so high that you're very unlikely to break them.

What will happen if I exceed the Fair Usage Policy?

If you exceed the Fair Usage Policy (either 1000 minutes or 150 calls in a given month), you'll receive an SMS to your landline, informing you that you've breached the Fair Usage Policy and will be charged at BT's standard rates for any further calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers (a call set-up-fee applies).

If you exceed the Fair Usage Policy you'll no longer receive inclusive calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers. Details of how to contact us about it will be provided in the SMS notification.

  • What is a renewable contract?

    • Some of our calling plans require you to sign up to a 12-month renewable contract.

This type of contract runs for a minimum period of 12 months. At the end of that time, we'll automatically renew the contract (for another 12 months) unless you tell us otherwise. We'll write to you a month before the contract is due to end and at that point you can decide whether you want to opt-out, stay on the same plan at the relevant fee, or change to a new plan.

If you want to opt-out during the minimum period or any renewable period, you have to pay an early termination charge. Similarly, if you cancel your account with BT before your contract has expired, you have to pay an early termination charge. How much you have to pay depends on how much of your 12-month contract is left.

If you move home and keep an account with BT you will take any remaining contract with you.

You can easily check which Calling Plan you are on as well as the start and end dates of your contract.

Just enter your phone number and postcode, confirm you are the account holder, and then press continue. After checking your details, we'll display your current calling plan along with the start and renewal dates. The descriptions of the different calling plans will tell you whether they work on a renewable contract.

Read all our terms and conditions.
