This message appears when the image database files are damaged. By touching [YES], you can create new image database files to use the camcorder normally.

If this happens...

• By selecting the medium you want to repair from [MENU] --> [Show others] --> [REPAIR IMG.DB F.] (under the [MANAGE MEDIA] category), you can register previously recorded movies and photos to the new image database files again to handle them with the camcorder.

This is a file system that Microsoft Corporation has designed and developed for removable media.

SDXC memory cards have adopted this file format, thus they can be used with devices compatible with this file format.

Operations with SDXC memory cards are verified on the VAIO models listed below.

Importing from the memory card slot is verified :

• P Series models released in May. 2010 or later
• L/J/F/S/Z Series models released in Jun. 2010 or later

• Still images: Max. 9.999 images/899 folders

Above numbers may decrease depending on the recorded images.

• High definition image quality (HD) movies: Max. 3,999
• Standard definition image quality (STD) movies: Max. 9,999
• Photos: Max. 40,000

2. Free space of the external medium connected to the camcorder is displayed.

You can play back them if the Sony camcorder has a function to write images directly to the external media.

However, Sony camcorder which cannot record AVCHD movies cannot play back AVCHD movies stored in the external media.

Note : Some movies may not be played back depending on the settings of [Frame Rate] or [REC Mode].

Movies stored in the external media are displayed on the different index screens according to their image quality.

If you can't find the movies, please try switching the index screen by touching [HD] or [STD].

Following external media with the USB interface can be used.

Media compatible with USB 2.0

• Hard disk or USB flash memory under 2TB. Optical disc drives such as a DVD drive or a CD drive can't be used. Use of an AC adaptor is recommended if you use a hard disk drive.
• Media formatted in FAT32 and without extended partition. If the media is not formatted with FAT32, you can use it by formatting it with the camcorder. Note that formatting erases all the data in the media.

We do not guarantee the operation of all the devices listed above.

• When you use the DIRECT COPY function, supply the power of the camcorder from the wall outlet using the AC adaptor.
• Optional Camcorder Cable VMC-UAM1 is necessary.
• Using a USB hub is not supported.
• Ask manufacturer of the media for details on the media.

Recording on a memory card may fail if you repeat copying and deleting image files or text files on a memory card using the computer, or if you format the card using other devices. In this case, format the memory card using the camcorder.

Be careful that all the data will be lost if you format the card.

If the performance of your memory card is low, recording data may not be written in the memory card and recording may stop with the [Buffer overflow] message.

When you connect the external recording medium to the camcorder, [Easy Copy] does not appear if all the images recorded in the internal memory of the camcorder were copied to the external recording medium before.

If you want to copy the images you copied before or want to copy the images recorded on the memory card, select [MENU] --> [Show others] --> [MOVIE DUB] or [PHOTO COPY], then select memory card or internal memory which contains images you want to copy.

When you connect the external recording medium to the camcorder, [Easy Copy] does not appear if all the images were copied to the external recording medium before.

If you want to copy the images you copied before, select [MENU] --> [Show others] --> [MOVIE DUB] or [PHOTO COPY].

[Easy Copy] does not appear if all the images recorded in the memory card or the internal memory of the camcorder were copied to the external recording medium before.

- Select the medium which contains the images you want to copy in [Media Select] in advance.

If you want to copy the images you copied before, select [MENU] --> [Edit/Copy] --> [Direct Copy], select the recording medium, and select the images.

You cannot convert HD movies to STD movies and copy them.

To record STD movies, select [MENU] --> [Image Quality/Size] --> [HD/STD Setting] --> [STD Quality] before recording.

To convert HD movies already recorded to STD movies and save them on a DVD disc, use the supplied software, PMB.

If there is no image database file in the medium connected to the camcorder, this message appears on the LCD screen of the camcorder and the screen to create a new image database file opens.
