  • HD movies cannot be played back on other devices.

    • Please check if the device is compatible with the MPEG-4 AVC High Profile in the AVCHD format, which is adopted by your camcorder.

      HD movies recorded with your camcorder can be played back only with a device compatible with the MPEG-4 AVC High Profile in the AVCHD format.

      Even if the device is compatible with the format above, images recorded with your camcorder may not be played back with other devices.

      Also, images recorded with other devices may not be played back with your camcorder.

      Check if the device is compatible with the MPEG-4 AVC High Profile in the AVCHD format, which is adopted by your camcorder.

      HD movies recorded with your camcorder can be played back only with a device compatible with the MPEG-4 AVC High Profile in the AVCHD format.

      If the movies are recorded in the PS mode (25p/50p), they cannot be played back unless the devices are compatible to the PS mode.

      If the movies are recorded in [25p] or [50p], they cannot be played back unless the camcorders are compatible to the progressive recording.

      Even if the device is compatible with the format above, images recorded with your camcorder may not be played back with other devices. Also, images recorded with other devices may not be played back with your camcorder.

  • Can I set the recording media separately for movies and photos?

  • The camcorder is not recognized with the "Music Transfer".

  • Images and audio are interrupted when played back.

    • If you play back the HD quality images whose frame rates [50i] and [50p] are mixed, images and audio may be interrupted at the boundaries where the frame rate is switched.

      This is not a malfunction.

      If the movies recorded in the PS mode are mixed, images and audio may be interrupted at the boundaries when you play back.

  • Can I display the date on the LCD screen during playback?

    • Yes, you can.

      When recording, the camcorder automatically records Data Code which contains date data.

      To display date, select [MENU] --> [Show others] --> [PLAYBACK SET] (under the [PLAYBACK] category) --> [DATA CODE] --> [DATE/TIME] --> [OK].

  • A "?" mark is displayed on the thumbnail list in the VISUAL INDEX.

    • The followings are possible causes.

      • Loading of the data for the VISUAL INDEX may have failed. It may be resolved by turning the power off and on again.
      • The image data may be damaged because you removed the battery, AC adaptor or a memory card before the access lamp is turned off. When removing them, make sure the access lamp is turned off.
      • You deleted the image file from the recording medium by operating from the computer.
      • You copied the image modified in the computer to the recording medium.

      The followings are possible causes.

      • Loading of the data for the VISUAL INDEX may have failed. It may be resolved by turning the power off and on again.
      • The image data may be damaged because you removed the battery, AC adaptor or a memory card before the access lamp is turned off after recording. When removing them, please make sure the access lamp is turned off.

      • You copied the image modified in the computer to the recording medium.

  • How can I create the digest of movies (Highlight Playback) and save it as a "scenario"?

    • To create the Highlight Playback:

      1. In the playback mode, touch [<] or [>] to select the desired event, and touch [Highlight]. If your camcorder is equipped with the GPS function, Highlight Playback can be created from the Map View, too.
      2. Press [Highlight Setting], set the items as you want, and touch [OK]. If you want to change the settings after the playback of the digest starts, touch the playback with spanner icon at the left side of the screen.
      3. After the playback of the digest, if you like it and want to share it, touch [Save and Share] and then [OK]. 

        HD quality movies will be converted to STD quality automatically and saved. (The original movies are not modified at all.) If you don't like it, change [Highlight Setting] again or create the digest again. Scenes for digest changes every time you touch [Highlight].

        The saved Highlight Playback can be imported to the computer using the supplied software "PMB".To save the digest as a "scenario":1. While the digest is played back in the procedure above, touch the playback with spanner icon at the left side of the screen.
      4. Touch [Scenario Save].

  • It takes time to display images when playing back.

  • When images on VISUAL INDEX are played back, the message "No applicable files available" appears.

    • This message appears if data on the hard disk / internal memory / memory card of the camcorder is handled directly with the computer.

      When you handle data of the camcorder, use the supplied software, PMB.If you directly handle files or folders of the camcorder from the computer, image files may be damaged or not be played back.

      Return the files or folders to the condition before handling, or format the recording media with the camcorder.

      * If you format the recording media, all movies and stiil images including protected ones will be deleted.

      * Sony will not accept responsibility for any results caused by handling data on the recording media from the computer.

  • Recorded images are too bright or too dark.

    • When you adjust [EXPOSURE] (under the [MANUAL SETTINGS] category) manually, and shoot a bright scene at [+] side or shoot a dark scene at [-] side, recorded images will be reproduced too bright or too dark.

      In this case, adjust [EXPOSURE] manually again or set it to [AUTO].

      Recorded images are too bright when shooting bright scenes with setting [EXPOSURE] to [+] side, or they are too dark when shooting dark scenes with setting [EXPOSURE] to [-] side.

      In this case, please adjust the exposure again or set [EXPOSURE] to [AUTO].

  • Images and audio are interrupted when played back in the Highlight Playback mode.

  • Can I play back movies only or photos only in the playback mode?

    • Yes, you can do it as follows unless the camcorder is in Highlight Playback, Scenario playback, or Map View (GPS model only).

      1. Set the camcorder to the playback mode (Event View).
      2. Select the event you want to view.
      3. Press the Switch Image Type button at the upper right corner on the LCD screen.
      4. Select [MOVIE] or [PHOTO].

  • A part of the image recorded in the NightShot mode is darkened.

  • I cannot hear audio when playing back the movies recorded in Golf Shot.

  • Recorded images look whitish and blurred.

    • If the lens of the camcorder is dirty, wipe the dust away on the lens with a soft cloth lightly.

      Under the environment of large temperature difference or high humidity, fogged images may be recorded as moisture condensation occurs inside the lens.

      In this case, remove the battery and memory card, and dry the camcorder until the condensation disappears.

      When you bring your camcorder from a cold place into a warm place, put your camcorder in a plastic bag and seal it tightly.

      Remove the bag when the air temperature inside the plastic bag has reached the surrounding temperature (after about one hour).

      If the problem persists even if you try the above, the camcorder may need to be repaired.

      If the lens of the camcorder is dirty, wipe the dust away on the lens with a soft cloth lightly.

      Under the environment of large temperature difference or high humidity, fogged images may be recorded as moisture condensation occurs inside the lens.

      In this case, remove the battery, memory card and the lens cap, and dry the camcorder till the condensation disappears.

      When the symptom is not improved even if you try the above, the camcorder may need to be repaired.
