  • Why my audio receiver connected to the HD receiver via HDMI is not working properly?

  • Although I have set Audio capabilities to "Auto" for HDMI or “Dolby Digital” for S/PDIF, my HD receiver does not deliver proper Dolby Digital 5.1 multi-channel audio output quality. Why ?

  • Dolby Digital sound issues

  • Problems with your TV picture

      • Problem with the TV picture

Are you experiencing problems with the picture on your TV? If something has gone wrong with your Sky box, TV set or connections you may see:

        • A rolling or jumping picture
        • Programmes that should be in colour showing in black and white
        • Blurred or frozen images on the screen
        • Snowflakes (just showing moving white dots/interference)
        • A plain or multi-coloured screen, such as a green screen
        • Picture blocking (‘blocky’ or pixelated picture, image split into rectangular shapes)

If so, you may find that a quick reboot of your equipment solves the issue. Try switching off your TV set and any equipment connected to it, including your Sky box and DVD player or VCR at the mains for three minutes. Switch everything back on, and wait for your Sky box to reboot. The lights on your Sky box will come back on after a couple of minutes. When they do, switch your TV set on, then press Sky on your remote control and you should see a clear picture. If this doesn’t fix it, try the other fixes in this help guide.

  • Poor quality sound or no sound at all

      • Remote control with volume buttons highlighted

If the sound quality of your Sky TV is poor, or you cannot hear your television at all, you can use the instructions on this page to find a quick solution to the problem.

        First check the basics

        • Press vol + on your Sky remote. If this doesn't work try increasing the volume using your TV remote control or the buttons on the front of your TV.

        • If your TV is connected to any other audio equipment, check that all equipment is switched on and working, with all cables securely connected.

        • Is the sound quality poor on all channels? If not, the problem may be caused by the programme or channel you are watching – and you may wish to wait and see if sound problems continue during the next programme.

        • If your Sky TV still experiences sound problems, you can use the instructions below to fix the issue in just a few minutes. This is the fastest way to fix audio problems affecting Sky TV.

Please note that some issues are caused by your TV set or other equipment, so you may need to contact the manufacturer, retailer or a TV repair person. Tune your TV to check whether terrestrial channels are also affected.

  • Missing subtitles in Sky TV

      • If you’re expecting to see subtitles when you watch Sky TV, but they’re missing from your screen, check that the programme you’re watching offers subtitles – not all shows do – then check that you have switched the service on. Press sky, then i on your Sky remote control and you should see the letter S displayed on the information panel that appears. If it’s not there, the programme you’re currently watching does not carry subtitles.

If an S is displayed, press help on your Sky remote control while watching the programme to bring up the subtitles and audio description options. You can toggle these settings using the left/right arrows on your Sky remote, before pressing select to save your new settings and return to the programme you're watching.
