Connecting your PlayStation 2 with a cable

    • Answer
    • These instructions will help you connect your PlayStation 2 (PS2) to the Internet using a cable.

They'll work with all PS2s that have a network port. The more recent, 'slimline' PS2s have a network port as standard. But if you own one of the older, 'original' PS2s, you'll need to buy Sony's network adapter first.

You'll also need the Network Adapter Start up CD (it came with your PS2 or with the network adapter) and a standard Ethernet cable to connect your PS2 to the O2 wireless box. You can use the yellow Ethernet cable we sent you. Or most computer shops should be able to sell you an additional cable (we like yellow, but it can be any colour you like).

Are you sure your PS2 has a network port? Ok, make sure your console is turned off, and follow these instructions.

      1. Make sure your O2 wireless box is switched on and that the DSL/Broadband light is green.

      2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the yellow sockets on the back of the O2 wireless box.

      3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your PS2's network socket. This is the same shape as the yellow sockets on the O2 wireless box.

      4. Turn on your PS2.

      5. Load the Network Adapter Start up CD.

      6. When it asks if you subscribe to an ISP, choose 'Yes' and press 'X'.

      7. Select 'High Speed Connection' (Cable or DSL) and press 'X'.

      8. Choose 'Automatic Settings' (Cable or DSL).

      9. When asked if your ISP needs a username and password, choose 'No'.

      10. Don't enter anything for the 'DHCP Host Name'.

Your PS2 will now test your connection. If the test is successful, press 'X' to save the network setup to a memory card.

That's it – you're connected, and ready to get start playing games online.

      Further help

If you run into problems getting your PS2 online, first check your O2 wireless box is connected to the Internet and working properly. The easiest way to do this is to make sure the Internet and DSL/Broadband lights are both green.
