How do I set up a connection to a Nintendo Wii and my netgear router?

    • Answer
    • This article will show you how to connect your Nintendo Wii console to a Netgear wireless router:

step 1 - choose your router from the list of access points

From the Wii console's main menu:

      1. Click the Wii button in the lower left corner:

      2. Click Wii Settings:

      1. Click the right facing arrow:

      2. Click Internet

      3. Click Connection Settings:

      4. Select a connection indicated as 'None'. In the example below we can choose Connection 1:

      5. Click Wireless Connection

      6. Click Search for access point

      7. The Wii console will search for an access point:

      8. Click OK

      9. The router should appear in a list of available wireless networks - in the example below it's OrangeE687FC:

step 2 - enter security settings

      1. Click to select your router:

      2. Click on the 'Input the password or key' field:

      3. Click Caps - it's really important that all letters are entered in upper case:

      4. Click to enter each character of the security key.
      5. The security key was chosen when you set up security on the router for the first time.

If you have the Pre-configured Netgear DGN 1000 router you'll see a wireless settings sticker at bottom of the router. Wireless network name (SSID) and security key are printed on this sticker. WiFi security on this router is enabled by default and the mode is Mixed WPA/WPA2.

      1. Click OK

      2. Click OK

      3. Click OK to save settings:

      4. Click OK to start the connection test:

      5. The Wii console will check if it's connected to your router:

      6. If the connection test is successful, internet setup is complete and your Wii console wirelessly connected:

step 3 - update the console

Finally, choose if you'd like to update your Wii console. If you would, click Yes and follow the onscreen prompts.
