Connecting your Nintendo DSi to your Sky wireless router

    • Answer
    • You can connect your Nintendo DSi to the internet through a wireless connection. Before you start, make sure that your Sky wireless router is connected to the internet and you can connect to the router using your computer. Then turn on your Nintendo DSi.

If you haven't set-up your Sky Broadband router, first you will need to unpack it and start it up. You can find help and advice on doing this in our Setting up your Sky Broadband router guide

If you've not connected your router yet, don't forget to check your Sky Broadband activation date - you will not be able to set up your broadband connection if your Sky Broadband has not been activated. You should have received this in a letter from Sky or you can check online to see if your service has been activated

Once you have set up your router, watch the instructional video or follow the simple step-by-step guide. Please note that the router in the video may be different from your router at home, but the principle of connecting to the internet is exactly the same.

Step 1 - Turn on your DSi

      Turn on your Nintendo DSi.

Step 2 - Select system settings option

Wait for the DSi menu to appear on your screen and select the System Settings option.

Step 3 - Select wireless communications

Once you have done this, select Wireless Communications. Once the page has loaded you’ll need to select On and then OK.

Step 4 - Select the Internet option

Using the right arrow on your keypad, select the third tab, and then the Internet option.

Step 5 - Select the Connection Setting
Once the page has loaded select the Connection Settings option on your screen.

Step 6 - Select Advanced Set up

You’ll see a list of connection options. Select Advanced Set up and then the Connection 4 option using the button marked None.

Step 7 - Select 'Search for an Access Point'

Now use the direction buttons to highlight and select the Search for an Access Point option.

Step 8 - Find your Wireless Network Name

For the next steps, you’ll need to know your Wireless Network Name. This is just the name of the wireless network you connect to and it’s printed on the Keep Me Handy Card that came with your Sky Broadband wireless router.

If you can’t find it your code can also be found on the bottom of your router. Unless you’ve changed it, your wireless network name will probably be something like “SKY” followed by five numbers. For example SKY 12345.  also be found on the bottom of your Sky Broadband wireless router.

Step 9 - Choose the right network

Look for your wireless network from the list of available networks and select it.

Step 10 - Select your security code

You’ll now be asked to select the security key that your router uses. Unless you’ve changed the encryption settings, this will be WPA-PSK (TKIP).

Step 11 - Select the text entry field

Select the text entry field to enter the network key which you'll find printed next to network key on your Sky wireless router and Keep Me Handy Card. You’ll now be asked for your network key. This is your password and is printed next to your SSID Code on the bottom of your router.

Make sure you type it in exactly as it’s printed or it won’t work. And remember, it’s case sensitive. Just so you know, there are no numbers, so if you see any circles they’ll be letter Os, not zeros.

Step 12 - Secure access point

When you see the 'This access point is secure' prompt, select OK.

      Step 13 - Save settings

A message will appear, saying: Do you want to save these settings? Select OK.

Step 14 - Test internet connection

Your DSi will run through its tests and a message will appear telling you that the DSi is testing the connection.

Step 15 - Access the internet

Once it’s finished you’ll be able to access the internet using your Nintendo DSi. Now you’re ready to take on the world and enjoy the thrills of online gaming.
