Before you start, switch on your games console and check that your Sky wireless router is connected to the internet.

If you haven't set-up your Sky Broadband router, first you will need to unpack it and start it up. You can find help and advice on doing this in our Setting up your Sky Broadband router guide

If you've not connected your router yet, don't forget to check your Sky Broadband activation date - you will not be able to set up your broadband connection if your Sky Broadband has not been activated. You should have received this in a letter from Sky or you can check online to see if your service has been activated

To see how to connect your Xbox 360 to the internet, with wires or wirelessly, watch our instructional videos or follow our step-by-step guides below. Please note that the router in the video may be different from your router at home, but the principle of connecting to the internet is exactly the same.

Connect your Xbox to the internet using wires

To connect your Xbox to the internet using wires you’ll need an Ethernet cable. This is the yellow cable that came with your Sky Broadband set-up kit.

Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the sockets at the back of your Sky Broadband wireless router and put the other end into your Xbox 360.

To check the connection is working select ‘ System Settings’ from the ‘ my X-box menu’ then select Network Settings. A wired network connection should appear with a tick in the top right hand corner. Press A to select this, then test X-box Live Connection, and then press Ato confirm.

That’s it.  You’re ready to go.

Step 1 - Connect your Xbox to the internet wirelessly
If you own the Xbox 360 Elite, please go directly to the next step.

If you are using an Xbox 360 with a third-party wireless bridge, you'll need to configure the bridge to connect to your Sky Broadband wireless network. Once the wireless bridge is connected, the set-up procedure is as if you are connecting an Ethernet cable, so use the instructions above for connecting your Xbox to the internet using wires.

Step 2 - Go to System Settings
Now, turn on your Xbox 360, pick up your controller and scroll through the options on the screen until you find the System Settings menu. Press the Abutton and you’ll be taken to the System SettingsScreen.

Step 3 - Choose Network Settings
From the System Settings screen, choose Network Settings, then configure network.

Step 4 – Find your wireless network name

For the next steps, you’ll need to know yourWireless Network Name. This is just the name of the wireless network you connect to and it’s printed on the Keep Me Handy Card Card that came with your Sky Broadband wireless router. If you can’t find it your code can also be found on the bottom of your router.

Unless you’ve changed it, your wireless network name will probably be something like “ SKY” followed by five numbers. For example SKY 12345.

Step 5 – Scan for Networks
A list of codes will now appear after you have configured the network in the Network Settings of your Xbox 360. Look for the one that matches your yours and select it. If you don’t see a list of codes, find and highlight the wireless information block and press A on your controller. Then select the Scan for Networks option.

Step 6 - Enter your Network key

You’ll now be asked for your password, also known as your network key. This is printed on your Keep Me Handy Card and on the bottom of your router.

Make sure you type it in exactly as it’s printed or it won’t work. Please remember that the Network Key is case sensitive. There are no numbers, so if you see any circles they’ll be letter 'O's, not zeros.

      When you’re finished, press start.

If you've changed your network key and want a reminder of the current one, follow the instructions in our help guide,Change your network encryption settings . Press done after you've entered the Network Key

Step 7 - Select done on the screen
You’ll then see a test screen prompt, which warns you that you’ll be logged out if you test the connection. Just press A and you’ll see a screen with all the network names. Your network will be at the top of the list with a tick in the top right. Press A to select this, you should then be taken to a new menu screen called Test X-Box Live Connection, and then press A to confirm.

You’re now ready to enjoy the thrills of online gaming.
